Run-time Review: The Hunger Games (2012)
The Hunger Games (2012)
Running Time: 142 mins.
First, it isn’t a rip-off of Battle Royale. Yes, you have kids killing each other, but the premise for doing so, and the thematic issues behind the two are worlds apart. That shouldn’t be an excuse not to watch.
The plot is very Hollywood, you have your protagonists, antagonists, side-characters, who all fit into stereotypes you’d see often in film. The main difference though is Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence. The character is stronger than most female leads and Lawrence is fantastic, beautiful and real.
I loved the survival show-type cinematography, it looked great throughout the Games, however the style did not fit the Capitol. That plus the over-abundance of neo-baroque fashion and design made the Capitol too accented to have any character. All-in-all, it was fun to watch, the Game scenes were amazing, and the rest is just enough for filler.
